A urinary tract infection (also referred to as a UTI) is a bacterial infection affecting the urinary tract.

Ways to prevent Urinary Tract Infection

  • Drink at least 8 glasses of clean water daily.
  • Do not resist the urge to urinate.
  • Do not bathe, instead, take a shower since bacteria accumulates in bath water.
  • After urination, women should always wipe from front to back.
  • If you have to urinate don't wait.
  • After sexual intercourse, it is a good practice to urinate.
  • Wash off for cleanliness sake before and after sexual intercourse.
  • Don't wear wet swimsuits or nylon underwear.
  • As a general rule avoid using toiletries that aren't gentle. Best to use herbal soap, shampoo etc.
  • During menstruation frequently change tampons and sanitary towels.
  • Avoid processed foods such as dairy products, cheese, spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol and chocolate.
  • Avoid tight or close fitting under garments.

Echinacea: Natural herb; best taken in capsule supplement form as an addition to an already healthy diet.
