Remedies for Swimmers Ear
Swimmer's ear is an inflammation of the external ear canal. The result may be itching, pain or temporary hearing loss.
If you have an earache, fever, chills or discharge from your ear, see your doctor immediately.
Ways to prevent Swimmers Ear
- Stay out of water that may be contaminated. Public swimming pools are breading grounds for fungi or bacteria, despite the chemicals placed in them to prevent such outbreaks.
- Do not use sharp objects to clean out your ears. Instead use a Q-Tip.
- Use swimmers ear plugs to keep water out.
- Keep your ear canal clean and free of wax build-up. Ask your pharmacist for a good product.
- After a swim turn the head and gently pull the ear in different directions to drain water out of the ear.
