Ways to relieve a Runny Nose

  • Allow your nose to run, this is the bodys way of clearing your nasal passages. If the nasal fluids are able to drain properly, they will clear up more quickly
  • Encourage nasal draining by using a vaporizer during bedtime. Make sure your door is closed and windows are closed.
  • Blow your nose very hard (within reason), and try and get as much mucus out as possible.
  • Clean your nose with water and then take deep breath in and out for fresh air, and do it 3 times.
  • Drink lots of fluids, such as water, orange juice, and tea.
  • Eat/drink a lot of hot soup. Chicken noodle is preferred for this.
  • Do not eat any kind of spicy food or peppers.
Folk Remedies & All Natural Supplements
*These folk remedies and related products are provided as an informational courtesy to our viewers. Please consult with your health care provider for diagnosis and before you implement any self prescribed supplementation.

Mustard oil: Heat some oil until it is luke warm. Using a dropper drip a small amount into one nostril, then repeat for the other nostril after a couple of minutes.
Brine solution: Dissolve a tablespoon of table salt into eight ounces of warm water. Using a dropper draw some of the solution and with head back place three drops in each nostril. Inhale repeatedly until you feel movement then blow nose.
Thyme: Using dry thyme, crush finely until it’s powdery, then inhale (gently).
Raise head: Remember the idea is to allow for drainage not to inhibit drainage. Place a couple of pillows behind your head will allow for drainage and prevent discharge to the stomach.
Water: It is important to drink lots of water, as this helps flush out the bacteria from the body, and also keeps the body hydrated.
