Remedies for Pink Eye

Pink Eye is highly contagious! Conjunctivitis, more commonly known as pinkeye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, a clear membrane that covers the outermost layer of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids.

Ways to relieve Pink Eye

  • Seek medical attention if you develop pink eye when you have a cold sore. Herpes simplex related conjunctivitis is a serious condition.
  • Invest in a high quality immune system supplement so your body can fight off infection.
  • Don't use contact lenses until your eyes have completely healed.
  • Pink eye is irritated by sunlight, wear sunglasses.
  • Get in the habit of washing your hands frequently and don't rub your eyes.
  • For cleanliness sake don't share washcloths, towels, pillows, sunglasses, binoculars etc.

Chamomile tea: A mild tea with antibacterial properties can be used as a eye wash. Cool to luke warm please!
Warm compress: Rose oil, lavender oil or chamomile oil makes for a soothing moist compress. Please keep eyes closed at all times and make a new compress for second eye.
Cold compress: If allergens are the problem, cold compress may feel more soothing. Please keep eyes closed at all times and make a new compress for second eye.
Boric acid: Use as a eye wash, has similar results as a warm compress. Cleans and soothes.
Saltwater: To kill the infection soak cotton balls in boiled saltwater and place them on the eyelid, repeat for second eye if needed with new cotton ball.
Tea bags: Boil tea bags and allow to cool, place separate tea bags on infected eyes. Discard tea bags.
Herbal Products: Generally very safe and reliable.
