Insomnia is characterized by too little or poor-quality sleep.

Ways to relieve Insomnia

  • Your sleeping environment plays an inportant role in sleep quality. When your head hits the pillow everything should feel comfortable, if it dosen't, correct the problem.
  • Going to bed at the same time is a very good practice, this sets your internal clock and induces sleep.
  • Did you know that too much sleep can cause insomnia? It's true; 8 or 9 hours of sound sleep is best for most people.
  • I like napping but limit your nap to no more than 30 min., 20 minutes is better.
  • If your in the habit of 'clock watching' then set an alarm and hide your clock.
  • Avoid caffeine and other stimulants six hours before bedtime and don't snack.
  • Being active physically by exercising etc. during the day makes for better sleep at night.
  • Here we go again; Get rid of STRESS! Stop worrying, life will go on with or without you so stop fretting.
  • Eliminate noise!
  • If you are frequently getting up to go to the bathroom seek a health professional. This is a sleep distraction and needs to be addressed.
