By Gary Kenneth Archer A recent study by the International Agency for Research on Cancer has shown that chest X-rays and Mammograms "may" increase women's chances of developing breast cancer. Young women who are members of families known to have BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations may be at a higher risk an may want to reconsider risking the use of X-rays. According to the study led by researcher Dr. David Goldgar women 20 years of age or less who get X-rays may have an increased risk of developing breast cancer 2.5 times greater by age 40 compared to women who had never been exposed to x-rays. It is important to note that the study has not decisively or conclusively linked breast cancer with chest X-rays. The study also notes that approximately 90 percent breast cancer cases are not hereditary. Healthy women and for that matter most women do not and will not require chest X-rays. Researchers note the importance of women to have a mammogram, particularly women 40 and over. Some skeptics, mostly in the cancer industry have vehemently scuffed off the Cancer/X-ray link. This is no surprise seeing that chest X-rays are an easy way to help diagnose breast cancer, which then leads to a lucrative cancer treatment protocol. Women or Men of any age should limit any X-rays to an absolute minimum. With so much controversy concerning the safety of X-rays, this alone demands our concern.
